Mere Dost Picture Abhi Baki Hai Movie Review – 1/5
Mere Dost Picture Abhi Baaki Hai – In Brief
The film is regarding a dissatisfied duo of a struggling actor and an ambitious director who are attempting their level best to make a feature film, 9-years-in-the-making. Nevertheless, they face the most unusual of odds on their way to turn successful in filmdom.
Lean storyline, lusterless dialogues, annoying music and tired performances, make this film a awful watch. You should not turn towards the ticket-window for this one.
Mere Dost Picture Abhi Baaki Hai – Short Plot
Sunil Shetty as Amar Joshi is a man from Benaras who pursued direction at a moviemakin g school in London. Desiring to return to India to make a film on a rape victim called ‘Cheekh’, he approaches his friend Suraj played by Rajpal Yadav to get an debut into Bollywood. Upon arriving at Mumbai, he recognizes that making a film won’t be as easy as he considered. He faces crazy characters; superstitious, foul-mouthed, immoral, sex-starved, corrupt, perverted and some of them, plain dumb. There are cameo appearances by Suresh Menon (a badly stereotyped South Indian music director), Deepak Qazir (an whimsical spirituality-struck producer), Avtar Gill (another sex-starved producer with a obsession for item numbers), Razzak Khan (as the crotch-tugging, foul-mouthed producer gave some of the most disgusting moments in the history of Indian cinema) and many more.Udita Goswami as an accomplished actress Mohini and Mumait Khan as a gangster’s moll also pitch around in the film. That the movie eventually gets produced or not shapes the point of the story.
Mere Dost Picture Abhi Baaki Hai – Performances
Terrible, even keeping in mind that the film has been in the making for virtually a decade, there is surely no excuse for mediocrity. Suniel Shetty and Rajpal Yadav overplay through their roles. They have to make believe throughout the film that they aren’t really concerned in making the film ‘Cheekh’. However, they look like they aren’t interested in making the film ‘Mere Dost Picture Abhi Baki Hai’ as well. Rajpal Yadav acts as a guy who cannot speak English properly. Therefore, he mispronounces words which end up associating something else from what was aimed and yes, unpleasant to pitfalls. Sexual implications are uncontrolled throughout the film. They don’t bring about gaiety at all. In fact, they are supremely flinch-worthy. Other ‘stars’ in the film include Udita Goswami, Mumait Khan, Shawar Ali, Shayan Munshi etc. Even veteran actors such as Neena Gupta and Om Puri are offensive in their badly written characters.
Mere Dost Picture Abhi Baaki Hai – Technical
It is so humorous that the film which addresses the troubles of filmdom, itself was in the containers for nine long years. Yet, after watching the film, it does not seem surprising at all. Such mindless writing deserves no acknowledgement. Even the music of the film is yawning. Director-writer Rajnish Thakur can likely keep revisiting this movie to discover why a film doesn’t work.
Mere Dost Picture Abhi Baaki Hai – Final Word
Dissatisfactory to the essence!
