Gattu Movie Review – Story Plot
Gattu played by Mohammad Samad is an orphan child who works with his stern uncle in the latter’s junkyard. Although the uncle wants the young Gattu to attend to work, but Gattu is more concerned in flying kites. When the attempts of all the local kite flying experts to accomplish mastery over the mysterious Kali, a black kite, fails, Gattu accepts the challenge to cut the kite and win it. When the capable Gattu is advised that he stands a better chance of cutting Kali if he flies his kite from the tallest complex, the determined Gattu steal away a school uniform and portrays as a student at the local school so as to use the terrace for his kite flying.
Though Gattu’s mission initially is to just win the black kite at any cost, he ends up making friends with other students in the school and ropes them in for his so called mission. How Gattu gets by to accomplish what he desires at the end of the day makes the rest of the story.
Gattu Movie Review – Performances
What this reviewer especially considered about the film was that unlike other films, where children are mostly pictured as innocent and naïve; Gattu depicts the other side of children- their determination, their freshness and their imagination. Mohammad Samad as Gattu is no failure surely, he is an explorer, ready to take risks to accomplish what he wants, never mind spirited enough to come up with advanced plans at the last minute. It is no doubt very pleasing to see the way the illiterate but street-smart Gattu passes through the local school and goes on as a student long enough to get what he wants. The other characters in the film too perform well, but it is Mohammad Samad who deserves the most claps…
Gattu Movie Review – Direction
Rajan Khosla does know how to tell a story well. His Gattu, though focusing on children rooted in poverty, does not direct at invoking sympathy. On the contrary, the film is quite upbeat with a blast of adventure and suspense (like the mysterious Kali and the person behind it) and it is no surprise that the film won honors at international film festivals. Moreover, the kite series have been brightly shot, making one hold his/her breath as the struggling kites battle in the bright blue skies.
Gattu Movie Review – Final Word
Like referred earlier, Rajan Khosa’s Gattu is a movie which can be enjoyed by both children and adults so try not to give it a miss by misinterpreting it for a normal kiddy film…
